The Bombay Scottish School was founded as an orphanage for the benefit of the daughters of British seamen of the Royal Indian Navy initially.

Though the ICSE and CBSE School Boards do not release a merit list of the topper students but instead give out individual results schools in Mumbai have regularly performed exceedingly well over the years.
